Aquatic Therapy Webinars Address Warrior Rehab and Rett Syndrome Co-Treatment
Middletown, PA (PRWEB) June 12, 2016 -- Physical therapy professionals are regularly on the lookout for new techniques, advice, tips, case studies, scientific research and general information when it comes to aquatics. Although aquatic therapy is a well-recognized part of the physical therapy realm, there is a tremendous amount of information to be learned about its best practices with specific populations. Two upcoming webinars will tackle the world of aquatics for very specific patient groups: wounded military personnel and those who have been diagnosed with Rett Syndrome.
The first webinar, “Innovative Co-Treatment of Rett Syndrome in an Aquatic Environment” will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. E.D.T. Presented by three colleagues serving the well-respected Lexington Regional Health Center in Nebraska, this webinar is a case study of the treatment protocols used during a particularly innovative merger of physical, occupational and speech therapies in an advanced, warm-water therapy pool.
In discussing their use of aquatic therapy to give their young Rett Syndrome patient a better quality of life, physical therapist Leeann Smith, occupational therapist Maura Rabe and speech therapist Kiley Goff will share their treatment protocols with attendees. They will also talk in depth about Rett Syndrome, a neurological disorder caused by an X-chromosome mutation and why patients with this syndrome respond well to water-based therapeutic environments. As part of “Innovative Co-Treatment of Rett Syndrome in an Aquatic Environment”, actual initial and current results will be shown and discussed. Images will be used throughout the webinar to better illustrate the strategies they used to benefit one very special client.
The second webinar,“Using Aquatics for Warrior Rehabilitation”, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, 2016, from 1:00-2:00 E.D.T. Led by Cory Keirn, DPT, OCS, CSCS, head physical therapist for aquatics at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, FL, the presentation is an inside look into how aquatics are changing rehab for America’s wounded veterans. Participants will receive an overview of the aquatic therapy methods Keirn uses for post-surgical patients who require rehab after total knee and hip arthroplasties, as well as those with traumatic brain injuries, multiple orthopedic injuries, blast injuries and concussions.
Throughout the webinar, Keirn will illustrate the training exercises he finds most effective for his veteran and active duty military clientele. “Using Aquatics for Warrior Rehabilitation” will conclude with an in-depth look at two case studies involving wounded military veterans who progressed remarkably thanks to aquatic therapy.
