As a cloud service or hosting provider, the risk of a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is often higher than that of other online businesses because these providers, in effect, aggregate the risk of all their customers. In fact, according to the Arbor Networks 8th annual Worldwide Infrastructure Security Report, 45% of surveyed data center operators experienced DDoS attacks against their data centers, up 60% from the prior year and, of these, 94% are seeing DDoS attacks regularly. Furthermore, the most frequent target of DDoS attacks is the end-customer, according to 78% of data center operator respondents.
