Architect and Retiree Share Insight on Building Safer and More Accessible Homes for the Ability to Age in Place with New Book
WASHINGTON (PRWEB) October 30, 2017 -- Architect and design specialist John Salmen and retired Air Force defense contractor Ron Knecht believe that the home is a place for everyone, regardless of physical or medical limitations. Therefore, a house should be built to conform to the various needs of its residents.
Salmen is the founder of Universal Designers & Consultants Inc. which specializes in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act; and Knecht having kept a promise to his wife that had passed away to provide a home that their family could live in for years to come. Together, they bring their holistic building methods to readers with “Universal Design Tips: Lessons Learned from Two UD Homes.”
“Universal Design Tips” introduces homeowners, architects and developers to the concept and application of Universal Design—a building approach that ensures homes are usable, efficient and comfortable for the widest possible range of people and their abilities. Salmen and Knecht discuss the process from start to finish of updating an existing house and for building from the ground up to incorporate Universal Design features.
“I wanted to show how a home could become more usable and safe in ways that were still creative and beautiful,” Salmen said. “Universal Design Tips is a complete guide on how to implement the Universal Design principles. It covers every room in the home, sharing tips on planning, material and construction.”
