Architect Goes Missing, Assumed a Suicide in New Novel
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (PRWEB) June 19, 2014 -- Combining fiction with fact in a sometimes-hallucinatory narrative, “The Architect’s Suicide: A Fictional Account” (published by iUniverse) by author and architect R M Beckley brings readers into the convoluted life and mysterious disappearance of a fictional American architect in this fragmented novel.
“I have fictionalized real characters and situations to illustrate the challenges faced by many architects today, hoping the public will grow to develop a more nuanced view of the architect’s enterprise and help the architectural profession take stock of itself,” Beckley says of his book.
An architect named Robert A. Michael – a anti-hero loosely inspired by Ayn Rand’s main character Howard Roark in “The Fountainhead” – reads the aforementioned book, identifying with the notion of an autonomous individual of independent-mindedness and integrity.
When Robert mysteriously disappears and is presumed dead by suicide, an architectural critic attempts to solve the case, speculating that Robert’s disappearance marks the end of the modern era and the death of the heroic portrayal of architects as depicted by Rand in “The Fountainhead.”
