Area’s Leading Eye Doctors Set To Attend SightMD’s 16th Semi-Annual ‘Dr. Frank Verdone Memorial Symposium For Optometrists’
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (PRWEB) May 30, 2018 -- In an ongoing tribute to honor the life and medical career of Long Island optometrist, Dr. Frank S. Verdone – who last year lost his battle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) – the leading eye surgeons of SightMD today announced their 16th Semi-Annual ‘Dr. Frank Verdone Memorial Symposium for Optometrists,’ according to Jeffrey Martin, MD, FACS, Chief Executive Officer of SightMD.
This year’s 16th semi-annual continuing education event for optometrists will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Huntington Hilton in Melville, NY, where optometrists from across the region will receive six Continuing Education credits approved for both New York and Florida doctors. Dr. Martin pointed out that the goal for these symposiums is to ensure that the optometric community has access to the latest trends in eye care and that the continuity of care between ophthalmology and optometry remains seamless.
As SightMD prepares to host their 16th semi-annual event, Dr. Martin reiterated the goal of these optometric educational symposiums is help educate and inform their optometric partners on the latest breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of many of today’s most common vision-threatening conditions. “Our educational efforts over the years have proven that the more closely we can co-manage patient care with our optometric colleagues, the more beneficial it is to our patients,” he said. “By providing a seamless quality of care to patients who are referred from our optometric partners, we’re raising the overall level of patient care and helping ensure that patients enjoy a lifetime of the best possible vision.”

This year’s event is once again being held at the Huntington Hilton, 598 NY-110, Melville, NY on Sunday, June 3, 2018, where an experienced faculty will lecture on a wide variety of topics, including: Talking About Floaters, Macular Pucker and a Little Bit of Uveitis; Optimizing Co-Management; A Series of Unfortunate Corneal Events, Infectious, Hereditary, and Iatrogenic; Pathology and Unusual Lesions of the Anterior Segment; Vision Correction, Cataract Surgery and LASIK What is Trending; Benign and Malignant Eyelid Lesions.
A total of 6 credit hours of continuing education – approved in both New York & Florida – will be presented. “Dr. Mauro will open this year’s symposium with an interesting lecture entitled, ‘Talking About Floaters, Macular Pucker and a Little Bit of Uveitis,’” said Dr. Martin. His co-instructor is Dr. Marcus. At 9 a.m., visiting optometrist, Dr. Walter Whitley will lecture on how to optimize the co-management process with optometric leaders.
After a brief morning break with medical vendors, Dr. Kligman will present on ‘A Series of Unfortunate Corneal Events: Infectious, Hereditary and Iatrogenic.’ His co-instructors will be Dr. Savetsky and Dr. Shah. At 11:15, Dr. Nattis will lecture on ‘Pathology and Unusual Lesions of the Anterior Segment.’ Her co-instructors will be Dr. Immanuel and Dr. Sforza.
During the scheduled lunch break from 12:15 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., attending doctors will have an opportunity to engage with medical vendors, attending ophthalmologists and faculty members. Following the 45-minute lunch break, Dr. Martin will lead off the afternoon lectures with an interesting lecture entitled, ‘Vision Correction….Cataract Surgery & LASIK…What is Trending?” His co-instructors for the afternoon session will be Dr. Nattis and Dr. Garelick.
Following a short break from 2:00 – 2:15, Dr. Baharestani presents a popular cosmetic lecture entitled, “Benign and Malignant Eyelid Lesions.” Dr. Buono will be his co-instructor.
