According to police interviewed by the Yuma Sun, Rodriguez was traveling on her skateboard inside a crosswalk when she was struck by a car that fled the scene of the accident. On Aug. 19, police arrested Edgar Borquez, 23, of Yavapai Lane, Yuma, at his home based on a tip to police, according the Yuma Sun and Fox 10 Arizona, “Arrest made in fatal hit & run accident in Yuma” (Aug. 20, 2013). Police also arrested Borquez’s parents, Guadalupe, 57, and Olivia, 54, for allegedly trying to help conceal evidence from the hit and run accident. According to prosecutors in court during arraignments for all three suspects, Edgar Borquez allegedly drove home after hitting Rodriguez, woke up his parents and told them what happened, the Yuma Sun reported. Borquez’s parents then took the car to the back of their home, covered it and removed parts allegedly to take to Mexico, the Yuma Sun reported.
Edgar Borquez faces charges of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of the fatal accident, according to the San Francisco Gate, “Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run accident in Yuma” (Aug. 20, 2013). Borquez’s parents were charged with hindering the prosecution due to allegedly trying to conceal evidence.
