Arizona DUI Lawyers at Corso Law Group Warn of Increased DUI Patrols and Alcohol-Related Arrests on Cinco de Mayo

Commonly referred to as Cinco de Drinko, the popular holiday was reported as one of deadliest for young drivers by BACtrack Breathalyzers. In 2014 during Cinco de Mayo weekend, approximately 18 percent of all drivers in deadly car accidents had a BAC of .15 of higher, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In 2015, Phoenix and Scottsdale police officers set up “saturation patrols” over the holiday weekend in order to identify intoxicated drivers, according to Phoenix New Times. Statewide, more than 2,000 deputies and officers in the Cinco de Mayo DUI task force made more than 400 DUI arrests, according to the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

Arizona has the strictest DUI laws in the United States, according to WalletHub. The study concluded that the Grand Canyon state tops the list of minimum jail sentence for first-time DUI offenders with 10 days.
Second time offenders can be sentenced to a maximum of six months in jail with a fines up to $2,500 plus an 84 percent surcharge.
