Arizona’s Giving Tree Wellness Center Helps to "Make Strides Against Breast Cancer"
North Phoenix and South Mesa, Arizona (PRWEB) October 15, 2013 -- The Giving Tree Wellness Center, with locations in North Phoenix and Mesa, is a leading alternative healing center and medical marijuana dispensary committed to "making strides" against breast cancer. Staff, patients, friends and family have teamed up to participate in the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event, which will be held on October 26th, 2013 at Tempe Beach Park from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. The event is a "celebration of survivorship—an occasion to express hope and our shared determination to make this breast cancer’s last century," says a spokesperson for the ACS.
At The Giving Tree Wellness Center, a holistic approach to pain management during cancer treatment is taken. Medical marijuana can be a key tool to combat nausea, a common side effect of chemotherapy, as well as the pain related to cancer therapy and advanced stage cancer. The Center also offers yoga classes and massage services, which may also be part of someone’s complete cancer care strategy. "We have an event set up through Facebook," says Center manager Lilach Mazor Power. "Saving lives from breast cancer starts one team, one walker, and one dollar at a time."
Anyone can join The Giving Tree Wellness Center’s team or donate today by visiting their page. With a goal of $5,000, as of early October they’re already 30 percent there. Over 20 walkers have joined the team, and many others have donated to the cause—and donations are going a lot farther to make even bigger strides. "We are matching all donations, and we have a raffle in each store," says Power. But what’s a great campaign without some fantastic swag? "We’re also selling five dollar tickets for a chance to win a bong and ¼ top shelf med. We are doing the walk!" In this instance, The Giving Tree is doing it right.
The center fully supports the mission of the ACS, and staff members see survivors and their caregivers on the "front lines" every day. "If your friend is losing her hair from chemo, your mother needs a ride to treatment or a loved one needs a place to stay when treatment is far from home, the ACS will be there to help," says Power "And we are here to support those efforts." At the same time, the ability for a patient to choose a pain management medication and healing regimen - including medical marijuana - that works for the breast cancer fighter is incredibly important.
With two weeks until the big event, there are over 590 teams registered and over $165,000 raised—so far. It’s not too late to be a part of this amazing event. It’s estimated that there will be over 230,000 new cases of breast cancer in 2014 alone, and a good chance that you, a loved one or a friend has been, or will be, impacted by the disease. It all starts with just one step, and The Giving Tree makes that first step just a little easier.
