Arminco, Inc. Awarded Contract to Design Alexandria Dental Office of Parker-Gray Pediatric Dental Care
Fairfax, Virginia (PRWEB) December 23, 2013 -- Arminco, Inc., a leader in the design and construction of dental clinics and medical facilities, was awarded the contract to design and build a modern, high-end dental office for Parker-Gray Pediatric Dental Care at 224 North Fayette Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Opening is anticipated for April 2014.
Arminco’s design incorporates a Greek-inspired theme, with a Mediterranean feel, reflected in its ocean blue and yellow building, turquoise door, and colorful aquarium. The practice will incorporate 3,355 square feet, requiring an extension to the approximately 2,000-square-foot original building.
It will be run by two pediatric dentists and features six treatment rooms, including two that are private, and an additional open bay with four chairs. The office will be completely digital and chartless, utilizing state-of-the-art dental equipment and a digital x-ray machine.
“We were chosen by Parker-Gray Pediatric Dental Care because of our design/build capabilities,” says Artin Safarian, Arminco president. “We will design, build, and outfit a modern dental practice, while preserving the historic significance of this building.”
Revitalization of the Historic Property at 224 North Fayette Street
The free-standing frame building at 224 North Fayette Street in Alexandria has a unique history in the community. It was originally built in 1944, at the end of WWII for use as the Carver Nursery School, an African-American children’s nursery for soldiers’ families. Five years later, it became the William Thomas American Legion Post #129, which continued to serve the local African-American community through the 20th century. It was named for William Thomas, the first African-American soldier from Alexandria to be killed in action during World War I, and during the segregation era was the only American Legion outpost in Alexandria open to African-Americans.
The building has been determined to be a contributing building to the proposed Uptown/Parker-Gray National Register Historic District, and will receive a historic plaque detailing its history, to be mounted near the front door. The District itself has been listed in the Virginia Landmarks Register by the Virginia Board of Historic Resources as of June 2008. It is registered in the categories of architecture, ethnic heritage (African-American), and social history.
For the past four to five years, the building has stood empty. The installation of Parker-Gray Pediatric Dental Care is significant in the revitalization of this community in Old Town Alexandria and the utilization of this historic building. It stands adjacent to a city park featuring basketball courts and a playground, and is near the shops and restaurants of Old Town Alexandria. On-street parking is available and the practice is within walking distance to Metro and multiple bus lines.
