Art by Mel Oppenheim’s ‘Silkography’ Hangs in a NYC Neighborhood Favorite Coffee Shop
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 23, 2013 -- Mel Oppenheim’s exhibit, “NYC Unscenes,” features bright and splashy color schemes applied to original photography of NYC’s typically unnoticed spaces and landscapes around Manhattan.
“I generally strive to take ordinarily drab, plain or outright ugly urban landscapes, and transform them into something refreshing and beautiful to my eye,” Oppenheim explains.
At Harvard, she found herself drawn to new types of art and sought to combine them in new and experimental ways. Oppenheim has devised an original, patent-pending process that combines the art of photography and silkscreening. SilkographyTM describes her unique process, which combines the ancient art of silkscreening with modern day digital imaging.
Oppenheim enjoys fusing technology into her art. As part of the “Google Glass Explorer’s Program,” Oppenheim is one of the few artists around the world who is digitally documenting and democratizing her creative process. Through Glass, Mel is having her art fans “vote” on the images she takes to guide her Fall 2013 series.
Oppenheim has already had pieces installed in luxury condominiums and office buildings across the country and regularly produces commissions (customized Silkographies) through her service YOU+MEL.
Oppenheim’s pieces will be on display at Café Grind from July 1, 2013 through the end of August. The artwork is available for purchase.
Café Grind is located at 477 10th Avenue in Midtown West. To learn more about Mel Oppenheim or to commission her for a project, please go to Mel Oppenheim’s Artist Page on Facebook, where she already has over 13,000 fans across the world. For inquiries, email artbymeloppenheim(at)gmail(dot)com
