Portland, Oregon (PRWEB) April 07, 2017 -- March 2017, Portland Art Museum, Portland, Oregon
Over 45 insurance, legal, and art specialists attended “Art, Finance and Planning: A Symposium for Professionals,” a unique collaboration of luxury experts sharing their insights on cutting-edge strategies to better counsel clients on growing, managing, or selling their art collections. Two expert panels provided a unique perspective on this ever-evolving landscape.
The event was sponsored by Luxe Platinum Properties, the exclusive Affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate for Oregon and Washington, Christie’s Collectrium, Chubb Insurance and U.S. Trust.
The first panel was moderated by Anne Dayton, the Senior Director of Collectrium, a Christie’s subsidiary company which pioneered a digital collection management platform. Panel members included Laura Doyle, a fine art underwriting specialist from Chubb; Elizabeth Leach, the owner of Portland’s Elizabeth Leach Gallery, and Deborah Gunn, Advisor, Faurschou Foundation. The topic was collection stewardship and the benefits of comprehensive management to maximize a collection’s value. Panelists shared advice and anecdotes relating to how to maintain one’s collection and Ms. Dayton gave a live demonstration on how to use the Collectrium platform.
The second panel explored the long-term benefits of working with financial professionals and attorneys who understand estate planning and the tax implications of collecting art to best serve clients. Senior Vice President of Christie’s Trust, Estate and Wealth Management Services, Rita Boyle, was the moderator. Joining the discussion was Laura Nagle, Vice President and Senior Specialist at Christie’s, Wendy Goffe, a partner at Stoel Rives LLP, and Craig Olson, the Senior Vice President of the Pacific Northwest Structured Credit Executive for U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management. Included in this conversation was the importance of provenance when it comes to an artwork’s value, in addition to the legal implications of a work’s history.
“Christie's auction house and Christie's International Real Estate have successfully complimented the comprehensive financial planning strategies of many advisors. This event was an opportunity to educate and introduce advisors to the language of collectors. Advisers had the opportunity to understand the benefits of relationships with Christie's, the auction house, and Christie's, the real estate company, as it pertains to their clients planning. Understanding the topic of collecting as it pertains to financial planning and using the local relationships of Christie's adds competitive advantages to planning for advisors.” Terry Sprague, CEO of Luxe Platinum Properties.
The day’s events culminated with an evening cocktail event attended by over 150 guests, including professionals from the morning conference and their high net worth clients. Both the morning and evening’s festivities included a fantastic introduction to the Iris & B. Gerald Canter Foundation’s Rodin Exhibition. Presiding over this presentation was Dawson Carr, PHD, the Janet & Richard Geary Curator of Art. Dr. Carr was previously Curator of Spanish and Italian Paintings (1500 – 1800) and Head of Display at The National Gallery in London and now the first full-time European curator in the 120-year history of the Portland Art Museum. Dr. Carr spoke with great passion about the exhibition, making the pieces come alive for the guests. In the evening, Jordan Schnitzer introduced Dr. Carr, and spoke to the importance of collecting and sharing art with the next generation. Echoing the morning’s panel discussions, Mr. Schnitzer spoke to the vital importance of collection stewardship.
Zackery Wright, Executive Director, Christie’s International Real Estate noted, “as an Affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, Luxe Platinum Properties is in a unique position to continue this important art discussion in Portland. Whether art or real estate, expertise is and client care is a guiding brand value of Christie’s.”
