Academy of Art University announced today the approval of a new one-year Art Teaching Credential Program, accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The Academy of Art University is unique among private art universities to offer its own credential program. The Academy’s program was developed to comply with rigorous California standards in competency-based teacher education and the latest developments in education theory and practice.
The program, slated to begin in summer of 2014 on the University’s campus in San Francisco and online, is designed specifically for art graduates who seek the fulfillment of guiding others in the exploration of their own creativity and personal artistic development.

During the one-year course of study, Teacher Candidates (those who are accepted into the program) will take 33 semester units of coursework while observing and teaching art to pupils in local public schools during fieldwork assignments. All fieldwork, observations and teaching in public classrooms must be completed on site, as required by the state of California, at partner schools in the Bay Area.
