Artist, Author Rand Uses Personal Experience to Explore Difficult Path of Victim to Survivor
Portland, OR (PRWEB) October 30, 2013 -- Set in the 1960s, Mississippi Flyway follows Ellie Moon through her personal difficulties of divorce, sexual and verbal abuse, and a fractured family. Through a road trip with her estranged father, Ellie discovers secrets of her past as they try to understand and repair a broken relationship.
With a colorful cast of characters ranging from the charismatic Chicago Fats to the complex Tiny Moon, Rand creates a story of healing and understanding that combines humor and entertainment with loss and struggle.
The novel is partly based on Nel Rand’s own experiences of abuse. She has incorporated into the story the importance of acknowledgement and working through difficult issues in order to heal.
“A victim of abuse myself, I wanted to write a book that illustrated the importance of healing,” said Rand. “The characters and the complexity of the story provide an interesting look at forgiveness, failure, family relationships and fear.”
Mississippi Flyway has been met with praise from a variety of authors and reviewers, including Writer’s Digest and Kirkus Reviews.
