artnet Auctions and LUMAS Present: LUMAS Charity Auction
New York/Paris/Berlin (PRWEB) November 28, 2013 -- artnet Auctions and LUMAS are giving back and using art for a good cause through their third charity auction, Help Us Build a School in Myanmar. In 2008, the typhoon Nargis left a trail of destruction through Myanmar, leaving much of the population in need of basic services. Reconstruction and repair is a long and strenuous process. With Help Us Build a School in Myanmar, LUMAS would like to help 100+ village children have a normal school life.
Traditionally, LUMAS retains the last print of an artwork (usually edition 100 out of 100) for its own collection and does not offer the work for sale. However, for the LUMAS Charity Auction, these last prints will be auctioned off on artnet Auctions for the sake of Burmese people in need. Starting on November 26, 2013, 18 artworks, including editions from Günter Rössler, Hiroshi Sato, David Hamilton, and Larry Yust, will be live for bidding on artnet Auctions.
One highlight of the sale is Günter Rössler’s Gisela (1968), estimated at US$3,500 to 5,000. Günter Rössler’s work is an homage to sensuality, and he creates works that are both aesthetically sensitive and evocative. His works are more than a formal play of shadows, but are not overly provocative as he focuses on the classical nude with a modern tone.
Another important artist featured in the sale is David Hamilton (British, b.1933), whose work La Muse (1971) is estimated at US$2,000 to 3,000. Hamilton has created his own world-renowned, romanticized style, which finds its strongest expression in his nude photographs. His works are shot exclusively with natural light, and utilize a diffuser scrim and historical costumes. Hamilton believes that photography developed out of painting, and his works pay tribute to this tradition. Whether capturing an erotic nude portrait or a landscape, his work finds its inspiration in the halls of art history, demonstrating the influence of Raphael, Balthus, and Edgar Degas.
Robert Lebeck’s No.1 2010 (2010), estimated at US$2,000 to 3,000, and Reinhard Gorner’s Gemäldegalerie, blau/grün, 1998 (2006), estimated at US$6,000 to 7,000 are additional highlights of this sale.
