As Temperatures Soar so does the Competition for the Women in the City Woman of Achievement Award 2013
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 26 July 2013 -- Leap into action this summer and nominate an exceptional woman for the Women in the City Woman of Achievement Award 2013. Senior level women who, in addition to fulfilling a demanding role, are actively supporting the progress of women are encouraged to enter the prestigious Award scheme.
Now in its seventh year the Woman of Achievement Award is proving increasingly popular, as it highlights the need to recognise senior female executives who are making sure that talented women are being supported to remain and progress in the workplace. The Award programme attracts entries from women working at partner and senior management level in a wide range of organisations across London and the Home Counties.
The Award sponsors for 2013 include AXA, Google, MITIE, Gather & Gather, with the University of Chicago Booth School of Business as Academic sponsor.
Each Award category is endorsed by a relevant professional organisation, which helps to promote the awards, provide a Judging Panel, select the Category Winner, and present the Award Certificates. The Award judging panel is chaired by Prof Susan Vinnicombe, OBE, Director, Centre for Developing Women Business Leaders at Cranfield School of Management.
The Award categories for 2013 are:
• Accountancy
• Built Environment
• Facilities Management
• Financial Services
• Insurance Services
• Legal Services
• Medicine & Healthcare
• Technology
Applications for the Award close on 20th September 2013 with judging taking place in mid-October. Category winners will be announced in early November and will go on to compete for the overall 2013 Woman of Achievement Award, which will be presented on Friday, 29th November at the 11th Annual Women in the City Annual Celebration Lunch held at Plaisterers’ Hall, London.
Gwen Rhys, CEO of Networking Culture Ltd and Founder of Women in the City said; “What we are really looking for is nominations for women who are working at the very top of their profession who already have a significant sphere of influence, and who go the extra mile to actively support and encourage other women within their organisation.
“We’re pleased to announce that we have already secured our first wave of nominations. However, we know there are even more women out there who are eligible for this Award and who will benefit from both the recognition and the prize offered by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Nominating is simple but judging is rigorous. By nominating you are recognising an exceptional woman and the contribution she makes to her organisation and business sector. “
Limited places are available at the 11th Annual Women in the City Lunch & Awards Ceremony held on 29th November. To book a place visit http://www.citywomen.co.uk

About Women in the City
Launched in 2003 Women in the City (WIC) has built a strong presence in London’s business hubs and its Annual Celebration Lunch is one of the City’s signature events. Its Membership programme and Award Winners Alumni make a powerful and influential community.
WIC also run an established awards programme. The Future Leaders Award identifies fast-track women with high leadership potential, with the winner gaining a place on Cranfield University School of Management’s Women as Leaders programme. The Woman of Achievement Award recognises senior and partner level women who, in addition to fulfilling a demanding job, are actively supporting the progress of women. Today, WIC attracts sponsorship from major corporates and its Awards Programme has the backing of the UK’s major professional bodies.
More recently WIC launched its Project Diamond handbook and supplements which bring expert advice and insight into the difference between male and female approaches to business.
Furthermore, through WIC’s Internship Programme female students are able to network beyond their usual circles, gain confidence from hosting at events, speak with enthusiasm about WIC at interviews, acquire valuable business and life skills, and secure jobs. The Women in the City Foundation supports young people to make better informed and more aspirational career choices and is currently working with Enabling Enterprise to develop a programme for 6th Formers.
