ASDS Announces Winners of Writing Competition
Rolling Meadows, Ill. (PRWEB) January 10, 2015 -- The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery has announced the three winners of its 2014 Young Investigators Writing Competition, a contest that recognizes research manuscripts written by younger ASDS members.
Their manuscripts – discussing Mohs Micrographic Surgery, aesthetic treatment of body fat and the inhibition of keloid fibroblast proliferation – will be published in Dermatologic Surgery, the official journal of ASDS.
The 2014 winners are:
• Andrea F. Chen, M.D., who conducted research on “Prediction of Post-Operative Pain Following Mohs Micrographic Surgery with Two Validated Pain Anxiety Scales.” Chen practices at the Rendon Center for Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine in Boca Raton, Fla. She performs Mohs Micrographic Surgery as well as cosmetic surgical and laser dermatologic procedures and general dermatology.
• Daniel P. Friedmann, M.D., Austin, Texas, who wrote “A Review of the Aesthetic Treatment of Abdominal Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue: Background, Implications and Therapeutic Options.” He practices at Westlake Dermatology in Austin and has been involved in numerous clinical trials, including for the treatment of localized fat reduction, stretch marks and skin laxity of the chest.
• Jared Jagdeo, M.D., honored for his manuscript on “Light Emitting Diode-Red Light Inhibits Keloid-Fibroblast Proliferation.” Jagdeo is an assistant professor at the University of California, Davis, Department of Dermatology, and has been involved in the research and writing of approximately 30 manuscripts.
Winners receive free general registration for the 2015 ASDS Annual Meeting, to be held in Chicago in October, a travel and lodging stipend for the Annual Meeting and recognition at the meeting.
Contest entrants present original studies, reviews, innovative insights and case reports on an aspect of dermatologic surgery. Up to three awards are given each year.
“Research is an important mission at ASDS,” said President George J. Hruza, M.D., MBA. “The Young Investigators Writing Competition is just one of our many efforts to foster, support, develop and encourage investigative knowledge in dermatologic surgery.”
The Young Investigators Writing Competition is open to dermatology and dermatologic surgery residents and fellows, or those ASDS members who have completed their dermatology residency within the past three years.
