ASDS to Participate in Special Olympics NC Summer Games with SPF For All program
Rolling Meadows, IL (PRWEB) June 03, 2017 -- For the second consecutive year, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) is proud to incorporate its SPF For All public service program at the 2017 Summer Games for Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) on June 2-4 in Raleigh.
ASDS will supply sunscreen dispensers in 15 Sun Safety Stations for public use throughout the event, while La Roche-Posay will provide its Anthelios 60 sunscreen in each station. This formula is an ultra-light, fast-absorbing fluid with sun protection factor (SPF) 60 and will be complimentary to Summer Games attendees and participants.
“Providing sunscreen at a multi-day outdoor event like the Summer Games is a great way to advocate sun-safe behaviors,” said ASDS President Thomas Rohrer, MD. “The ASDS SPF For All Program continues to be effective in encouraging a proactive attitude towards protection against skin cancer.”
The SPF for All Public Service Program was conceptualized in 2016 by Christie Regula, MD, and Sue Ellen Cox, MD, through the ASDS Future Leaders Network, an exclusive mentoring program to support the develop the next generation of dermatologic surgery leaders. The SPF For All program promotes the successful implementation of sunscreen dispensers across the U.S. and encourages the installation of additional dispensers in common public areas, such as local parks and baseball or soccer fields.
In addition to providing sunscreen dispensers, which SONC also recently implemented at least year’s Summer Games and the 2017 Spring Games, SONC offers sun safety education through one of its seven Healthy Athletes disciplines: Health Promotion. Its objective is to provide education and resources to encourage healthy life choices for people with intellectual disabilities.
“Sun safety education is a vital part of our Healthy Athletes program, where our goal is to build healthier communities and provide access to health-conscious information for people with intellectual disabilities,” said Rachel McQuiston, VP of Communications at SONC. “This education helps Special Olympics athletes perform their best whether on or off the playing field.”
