Ashburn, VA (PRWEB) November 12, 2014 -- Ashburn Resident and The Brad Kaminsky Foundation (TBKF) President, Lisa Kaminsky-Millar received the Prestigious Penn State Alumni Service Award this past Friday, 11/7/14 for her tireless efforts to raise awareness and funds for pediatric and adult brain tumor and cancer research. The University presented her with the following plaque on behalf of Penn State’s College of Health and Human Development.
Millar started the Foundation in 2001 after her brother, Brad Kaminsky, passed away from brain cancer at the age of 29. Since then, the foundation has donated over one million dollars to cancer research and Lisa continues to be a beacon of hope for those impacted by cancer. She not only connects patients with top surgeons and oncologists but she provides very personalized support for those all over the world impacted by cancer.
In the Ashburn community, Millar and the foundation spearheads the Annual Larry Burns Monte Carlo and Mardi Gras Gala, The Annual Heroes of Hope Golf Tournament, the Annual Giddy up and Go 15k/5k Race for Healthy Heads and the iDance4ACURE National Campaign to end Childhood Cancer. Millar also hosts the Annual Heroes of Hope Race for Research in Los Angeles.
Millar graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management (HRIM). She addressed the college Friday night by saying “I always knew I wanted to be of service to others and thought about becoming a doctor but I decided to go into HRIM to help people on a less serious level, I felt I could handle that a bit better. I guess sometimes we end up where we are meant to be. It is my honor and privilege to do this work on behalf of all those fighting.”
