London,UK (PRWEB UK) 8 September 2016 -- Asite's Build Earth Live Hyperloop competition is taking place on Monday, September 26 at noon GST until Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at noon GST, and the judging lineup is tasked with the difficult decision of deciding who is the best of the virtual and collaborative design competition.
Supporting sponsors include Hyperloop One, Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority and global design and BIM software developer Vectorworks, Inc.
Representing the United States on the panel is: Colin Rhys, director of experience design at Hyperloop One and Nathan Doughty, group COO of Asite and founder of Build Earth Live.
Colin Rhys’s desire to explore the human experience in relation to environment and creativity launched in 2004, with his role as owner/executive director of the RHYS art gallery. Nine years, stunning international exhibitions in six different continents and over 32 countries later, RHYS was a globally-recognized brand. Ignited by his unequivocal success in fine arts, Colin was driven to the intersections of design and architecture in 2010.
He began building and designing bespoke residences in the greater Los Angeles area for the Xanadu Group, with the purpose to enrich human experience in physical spaces. By 2016, after recognized successes on multimillion dollar projects—several of which earned international acclaim, awards and critical acknowledgement, including multiple features on Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing – Colin was ready for his next creative evolution. Hyperloop became that visionary opportunity, where Colin’s experimentalist passion and expertise in design intersect with a company whose mission will rewrite our ideas of transportation.
United Kingdom members on the panel are Turner & Townsend‘s George Mokhtar and Director of bpr architects Paul Beaty Pownall, both of which have become the sole United Kingdom architects to be invited to judge the entries.
Mokhtar is an Associate Director at T&T and his past working for BIM Academy and as a lecturer at Northumbria University means that he has a wide range of experience making him perfect for the role. He knows all about collaboration and modelling, ensuring he will have the perfect background to officiate the judging process.
Representing Dubai is Muna Al Osaimi, appointed as the Director, Rail Planning and Projects Development of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in 2015, with 10 years of experience in Railway Planning, Studies and Projects Development and 12 years overall experience in government projects. About Build Earth Live
The 48-hour virtual Building Information Modelling (BIM) event begins on September 26, 2016 at noon GST and closes on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at noon GST. Teams made up of professionals in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) industries will be challenged to collaborate using BIM technology to virtually design Hyperloop terminuses linking Dubai and Fujairah.
Additionally, this is the first Build Earth live edition where the winning designs have the chance to actually be built, as the United Arab Emirate (UAE) government is planning to build Hyperloop infrastructure in the near future. If built, the travel time between Dubai and Fujairah would be reduced to less than 10 minutes.
Hyperloop is a system that integrates a low-pressure pipe linking two stations enabling passenger capsules within the pipe to travel at high speeds of up to 1200 km per hour. The technology is capable of reducing the time required for travel between New York and Beijing to just two hours. Experts say that the cost of building a single Hyperloop tube will cost just 10% of the cost of building conventional high speed trains.
Six finalist teams will be chosen to fly out to Dubai and present their final designs to a live Dubai audience. All flights and accommodation will be paid for and all finalists will attend the final award ceremony 4th October live in the Emirates towers, Dubai.
