Assemblymember Marie Waldron, San Marcos Mayor Jim Desmond and Affirmed Housing break ground on Eastgate: a mixed use community featuring set aside units for Veterans
San Marcos, CA (PRWEB) August 18, 2015 -- Local, state, and federal officials joined Affirmed Housing on July 30, 2015 to celebrate the groundbreaking of Eastgate - the newest mixed-use apartment community in San Marcos, California.
California Assembly member Marie Waldron kicked off the ceremony by talking about the impact this development will have on the community, followed by Mayor Jim Desmond who spoke of the new communities importance to the master planned, Creek-side district. Other speakers at the groundbreaking include: James Silverwood, President of Affirmed Housing, Waheed Karim, Vice President of US Bank, Lisa Castillo, Vice President of Origination's, WNC, and Real Estate & Commercial Lending.
Designed to blend harmoniously with its neighbors, Eastgate will offer 42 studio, one, two, and three bedroom affordable homes for families earning 50%-60% of the San Diego County Area Median Income. Pre-selected, income qualified Veterans will have preference to 11 homes as designated by the CAL HOME services program. Eastgate will incorporate an interior common space, a manager’s apartment, and an exterior community courtyard. The ground floors will be comprised of property management offices, offices for resident case management services, commercial spaces, and community amenities, such as a common kitchen and tech stations. In addition, other onsite amenities will include a tot lot, barbecue areas, laundry facilities, and educational programs. Consisting of three 3-story buildings, Eastgate is conveniently located within walking distance of numerous amenities including local schools, dining, and retail.
The $18 million dollar community will feature over 7,000 sq. ft. of commercial space on the ground floor and offers 6 live/work homes. Many local organizations, financial institutions, and government leaders played a role in developing this project. Financial partners in the project include: US Bank, WNC, City of San Marcos, and the County of San Diego.
Eastgate serves to enhance and define the City of San Marcos master plan for the Creek-side district. James Silverwood, President of Affirmed Housing, states, “Eastgate is designed to facilitate a strong sense of community among residents, and the neighborhood at large. Eastgate will be a positive addition to the local community and will enhance the development of the Creek-side district.”
