Astoria Software Showcases Best Practices in Upcoming CIDM Conference
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 16, 2015 -- Astoria Software, a division of TransPerfect, today announced its suite of solutions to be showcased at the upcoming Best Practices conference for the Center for Information Development Management, held this year in St. Petersburg, Florida. The CIDM Best Practices conference helps managers of information development to learn about the best ideas and innovations in dynamic publishing, content management, social media, and enterprise-wide information creation. Building on the strength of recent recognition by KMWorld (100 Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management) and eContent (100 companies in the Digital Content), Astoria Software will provide live demonstrations of its innovations and best-practices in content creation, content delivery on mobile devices, and content versioning to conference attendees.
Collaboration Innovations that Matter to Information Development Managers
The Best Practices conference theme this year is, “Developing a Collaboration Strategy”. Attendees visiting with Astoria Software representatives will see browser-based editing suitable for a subject-matter expert (SME). Engaging an SME in the content development process has long been a collaborative weakness due to the mismatch between the complexity of DITA encoding schemes and the level of DITA training that most companies will spend for an SME. Astoria’s browser-based editing resolves that mismatch by simplifying the editing experience and broadening the editing environment to include browsers running on desktop, laptop, and tablet-sized devices. The result is a content creation process involving a more engaged and productive SME.
Attendees will also see another point of collaboration built into the Astoria system: content review on mobile devices. A content creation process built around traceable approvals ensures a consistent, official “voice” in end-user-facing content. Astoria Mobility lets users remain engaged in the review and approval process wherever they’re located: on a train, on a plane, or in a taxi. Astoria Software is the only vendor of XML component content management allowing key resources to stay productive in content review and approval anywhere in the world that business takes them and on any Apple iOS® or Google Android® device.
DITA-Friendly Branch/Merge
For the first time in the history of the Best Practices conference, attendees will see a branch/merge implementation designed specifically for DITA content. Managers are well aware of the challenges to maintain and also merge multiple versions of topics as product evolution requires. The Astoria Software team has combined automated content merging with wizard-driven resolution of ten different types of merge conflicts that can exist in DITA documents. The result is a DITA-friendly implementation of branch/merge that guides users through the resolution process and produces an audit trail that can be inspected and reverted. Furthermore, it works well high levels of content referencing, a situation promoted by the DITA standard and one that challenges the design of conventional branch/merge implementations in such tools as Git or Subversion.
