At-Risk Kids Shoot For The Stars With NBA Legend
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) December 20, 2016 -- 21 homeless and at-risk youth gathered at the Sport Science Lab in Irvine on December 17th and 18th for an opportunity to learn basketball and life lessons from legendary NBA player and coach, Henry Bibby. The kids, some of whom were from youth homelessness organization StandUp For Kids Orange County, were given the opportunity to attend the Athletes Fundamentals Basketball Camp, where they were coached by Henry Bibby himself.
“It was great seeing the children have fun!” says StandUp For Kids volunteer Denisse Acosta. “The coaches’ lessons were insightful, and the kids are able to apply the teachings to various aspects of their lives.”
With the aid of Bibby and several other coaches, the kids were taught the essentials of basketball, from dribbling and shooting to defense and footwork. They were also given lessons on ethics and the importance of working hard, which Bibby compounded by sharing stories of his own challenging youth.
StandUp For Kids was honored to take part in the inaugural weekend of Henry Bibby’s Star Athletes basketball camp. Henry Bibby is a champion for homeless and at-risk kids in Southern California, and StandUp For Kids is grateful to have his support and generosity.
