Atelier Phi Leads the Way in 2014 Furniture Design Trends
(PRWEB UK) 28 April 2014 -- Leading architecture and design blog Freshome.com has announced their annual list of furniture design trends for 2014, many of which speak to Atelier Phi’s unique design process, such as an increased focus on customisation, sustainable materials and multifunctionality.
On the rising popularity of custom-made furniture, Freshome.com states, “Custom is usually noticeably different and different sparks conversation. People are now expressing their personality through their furniture more and more.”
Slingerland’s furniture is sparking conversation, having been compared to innovative small scale architecture in recent exhibitions across Nyon, Geneva and Montreux, Switzerland this year.
“I’m glad that more people are seeing the appeal of custom designs,” says Slingerland. “Mass produced furniture has its place, but to have at least one unique chair, table or bench in your living space really communicates your personal style. The furniture of Atelier Phi is created either bespoke or in very small series so there is a lot of care and pride put into every piece.”
The use of environmentally friendly materials is also on the rise and Freshome.com recommends choosing furniture made from a sustainable local source to be certain of its origins and impact on the environment. Sustainability is a main concern for Slingerland, as she has made it a priority to use only Switzerland-based suppliers and eco-friendly materials in her designs.
In addition to sustainability, this year’s trends emphasise multifunctional furniture – especially in modern, minimalistic home design. Atelier Phi’s Recycling Bench illustrates this trend, as it combines three different utilities. The Recycling Bench can be used to separate and store recyclable materials with a chalkboard finish for note-taking and reminders; as a durable kitchen seating area with storage underneath; or as a vertical column of drawers befitting of a lounge or hobby room.
While Altelier Phi embodies the latest furniture trends, Slingerland is always aiming to think outside the box. “I started Atelier Phi to push the boundaries of design using innovative shapes, materials and structures to create beautiful furniture with superb functionality. In order to do this, you have to remain flexible and inspired by your surroundings. It’s not enough to challenge the ordinary but you must aim to inspire on every level.”
