Athletic Republic Celebrates Training One Million Athletes
Park City, Utah (PRWEB) April 14, 2015 -- For the past 25 years, Athletic Republic has propelled athletes from the bench to the field, from freshman to varsity squads, from high school to college, from college to the pros, and from the back of the pack to the podium. This month, the Athletic Republic network of advanced sports training centers is celebrating its one-millionth athlete trained.
It all began in the 1980s when exercise physiologist, John Frappier, was chosen to accompany the U.S. Gymnastics delegation to the Soviet Union for the 1986 Goodwill Games. The experience provided Frappier the opportunity to study the Soviet system of developing world-class athletes, a system with which it had achieved remarkable success. He returned to the States with a radically new understanding of the boundaries of human performance, and how those limits could be pushed further. Based on this learning, he founded the Frappier Acceleration Training centers.
In 2007, a group of investors led by Charlie Graves, envisioning the potential of more widespread availability of the Frappier system, acquired the controlling interest in the business. They renamed it Athletic Republic and began franchise expansion of the sports training system.
"As a former world-ranked swimmer and triathlete, I recognized the results that the training system Frappier pioneered was achieving, and wanted to expand the number of training centers so we could contribute to the development of more athletes," stated Athletic Republic CEO Charlie Graves. "With Park City, Utah as our headquarters, we have managed to expand the franchise business to 120 locations and this month, our network celebrates the one million athletes who have trained with our sports performance system."
The Acceleration Training program used by Athletic Republic is based on the basic tenant that speed and quickness are not limited to the genetically gifted. In other words, performance that gives athletes a competitive advantage can be acquired. The goal of the program is to increase speed, build power, and improve agility through protocols developed over decades of training professional, college, and high school athletes. The test - teach - train approach to each athlete's development brings data-driven athlete assessment to individualized workouts that are tailored to the athletes' age, sport-specific needs, and goals.
Athletes work in groups of fewer than five with trainers certified in the AR Acceleration method. They include baseball, football, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, volleyball players, skiers, swimmers, runners and more. Depending on the day, they may be working on plyometric routines to improve, agility, foot speed, and change in direction or perfecting their running mechanics and acceleration on the specialized treadmill, while also working on strength, stability and explosive power with other specialized AR equipment.
The results speak for themselves. From children with ambitions of playing athletics at the collegiate level, to collegiate stand-outs like Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon preparing to make his mark in the NFL, Athletic Republic's training correlates to improved performance on the field. Over the years, over 2500 professional and Olympic athletes have passed through Athletic Republic training centers, including seven Heisman Trophy finalists.
The afternoon hours at an Athletic Republic facility are dominated by middle school and high school student athletes working with trainers. In the mornings and on the weekends, you're more likely to find cyclists, runners, and triathletes training under AR's Endurance Sport Training program. This new program, aimed at the adult endurance athlete, teaches proper running mechanics and economy, power, and dynamic stability to improve performance and reduce the potential for injury. The program includes small-group sessions similar to the Acceleration Training, as well as running intervals as part of a distance running program and indoor group cycling sessions using the athletes' own bikes and a computerized workout on the Wahoo Kickr cycling trainers.
