Atlanta Boxer Rescue Rescues 1,000th Dog
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 10, 2015 -- Atlanta Boxer Rescue recently took in its 1,000th dog, a brindle boxer appropriately named Kilo, since kilo is the Greek word for 1,000. Since 2008, Atlanta Boxer Rescue has specialized in the rescue, adoption and animal welfare of boxer dogs in the Atlanta area. Volunteers for the organization take in unwanted and abandoned boxers, medically rehabilitate them and help them find new homes. In just the first four years of its existence, Atlanta Boxer Rescue found homes for over 500 Boxers.
Kilo, the 1000th Boxer to be rescued, was brought to DeKalb County Animal Control as a severely malnourished stray. Weighing in at only 40 pounds when rescued, Kilo weighs approximately 18 kilograms. When he arrived at his foster home, Kilo was covered in sores, scars and insect bites. He is also heartworm positive is being treated for a respiratory infection. The Atlanta Boxer Rescue volunteers, along with expert care provided by veterinarians, are working to get Kilo healthy, so he can be placed for adoption in a permanent home. “We founded Atlanta Boxer Rescue because of our love for this dog breed,” said Dianne DaLee, president of Atlanta Boxer Rescue. “These dogs have lots of love to give, and our volunteers work hard to get them healthy and find the right forever homes for them. Once Kilo is healthy enough, we’ll help him find his forever home.”
Starting with its first rescue, Tiger Lily, an eight-month-old brindle female boxer, Atlanta Boxer Rescue has found loving homes for boxers. Volunteers screen would-be adopters closely and help to educate people adopting the dogs about caring for boxers. Adopters come from all walks of life, including Hall of Fame baseball players.
"When we decided to adopt a dog, we wanted another boxer in honor of our dog, Rhett, we had as part of our family for many wonderful years. We knew we wanted our new boxer to be a rescue, and came across the incredible organization Atlanta Boxer Rescue,” said John Smoltz, Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame pitcher and sportscaster. “Atlanta Boxer Rescue and their volunteers were great to work with and helped us find the perfect Boxer for our family.”
