Attorney Dani Liblang Alerts Consumers to the Realities of Vehicular Cyber-attacks
Birmingham, MI (PRWEB) September 03, 2015 -- The recall of 1.4 million Fiat Chrysler vehicles last month woke-up the automotive industry to the realities of cyber-security risks. “It’s a totally different world,” states Dani Liblang, founder of the Liblang Law Firm PC. “Although the FCA has stated that there has not been a single real world incident of an unlawful or unauthorized remote hack into any FCA vehicle, it is becoming increasing clear that all makes of cars are vulnerable to hacking.” (read more)
The massive recall was in response to a demonstration conducted by two researchers, Charlie Miller and Chris Valesek who remotely hijacked a reporter’s car in June. This demonstration showed a flaw in the wireless service and affects Jeep Cherokees, Chrysler 200s, Dodge Rams and several other vehicles. Models known to be affected are those from late 2013, all of 2014 and early 2015 that are loaded with Uconnect and the full navigation displays. (read more)
“The entire playing field has changed,” states Liblang. “The advances in technology have created some real vulnerability in our transportation system. It has now been shown that the control functions of a vehicle can be overridden from the outside. Consumers need to be vigilant for alerts and seek software updates and other protective measures when announced.”
Chrysler has acknowledged the problem and is now offering a software upgrade that will address this last breech. Liblang explains, “If your vehicle is affected, it can be corrected and you can download the software yourself. Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles has a website where you can enter the Vehicle Identification Number of your car and download the update. If you’d like assistance, go to your local dealer and they’ll update your system for you.”
Liblang wants to alert all drivers that this danger is now a reality and they need to take this concern seriously. “Drivers really need to become aware,” warns Liblang. “This is uncharted territory. The rise of new technology creates many unexpected liabilities. Today consumers need to understand that the possibility of their vehicle being hi-jacked remotely really does exist.”
