Attorney Daniel Gigiano Reviews Ohio’s Annie’s Law
WADSWORTH, Ohio (PRWEB) October 17, 2017 -- Annie’s law went into effect April 6, 2017, named after Annie Rooney, an attorney from Chillicothe, Ohio, who was hit and killed by a multiple OVI offender who was under the influence of alcohol. Changes include:
1. Longer driver’s license suspension periods;
2. Different ways to impose jail time;
3. Increase in the look -back period for enhancing DUI penalties from four years to ten years.
4. Changing the way ignition interlock devices are used as part of a driver’s license suspension.
Annie’s law is part of the Ohio legislature continued efforts to get tougher on DUI. While courts have imposed the tougher driver’s license sentencing schemes required by the new law, many courts have declined to grant OVI offenders the more expansive driving privileges available under Annie’s law.
