Attorney David L. Goldman Attends Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
Sarasota, Florida (PRWEB) January 22, 2015 -- Sarasota celebrated the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex. In attendance were local elected officials, community and religious leaders, many of whom spoke about what Dr. King had achieved in his lifetime and what still needs to be accomplished to fully realize his dream of racial equality. Also in attendance was Sarasota Injury Attorney David L. Goldman from Shapiro Goldman Babboni & Walsh, who was invited as a guest of Scott Anderson of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. Mr. Goldman serves as a director and co-president of Second Chance Last Opportunity, a local non-profit organization which provides a variety of educational training programs, street outreach, and inspirational youth programming to at-risk teens, single moms, low income families, and the homeless.
The breakfast program featured local African-American elected officials and community leaders, such as Sarasota County Commission Chairwoman, Carolyn Mason and Sarasota Mayor Willie Shaw. There were musical performances, which included a performance by the Sarasota Opera. Alyssa White, a featured performer at the Westcoast Black Theater Troupe sang an inspirational and emotionally charged version of Billie Holiday’s controversial classic “Strange Fruit,” about a lynching during the Jim Crow era. A common theme for many of the speakers was education. Featured speaker Wydel Darvill spoke of the need for the community and families to actively help young people pursue continuing education and avoid getting caught up in the juvenile correctional system.
Attorney David Goldman had this to say about the event, “ To be invited to attend the city's celebration of one of the world's most important civil rights leaders is a great honor. Dr. King never backed down from his principles or his goals. It is because of Martin Luther King and his supporters that America has become the country it is today where the freedoms guaranteed in the constitution are protected for everyone no matter their color. As a civil trial lawyer I find inspiration in Dr. King and strive to reflect his values and conviction for social justice for the clients I have the privilege of serving.”
