The applicant must additionally show that he or she completed at least 45 hours of educational activities in specified areas of criminal law within the previous three years. The applicant must also pass an exam and undergo other types of review by the State Bar.

After becoming a licensed attorney, Mr. Schaffer spent 18 years working as a Deputy District Attorney in Orange County. He then went on to practice criminal defense, also in Orange County.
