Mr. Selbka is an experienced litigator who will represent clients of the firm across a range of practice areas within his vast realm of experience, including business and corporate law, education law, residential and commercial real estate, employment law, estate planning and litigation, and construction law.
Joseph Selbka graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1996 and immediately went to work as a special assistant attorney general representing the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) as litigation counsel before entering private practice. During his tenure at IDES, Mr. Selbka defended hundreds of administrative review actions and gained an enormous wealth of experience in administrative and employment law. In 2001, he earned a Master's in Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs, where he currently serves as an adjunct lecturer teaching a master's level course to public administration graduate students.
Mr. Selbka also possesses several years of experience serving as a Hearing Officer for the Illinois State Board of Education as well as the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education.
In his many years of private practice, Mr. Selbka has represented clients before a great many tribunals, including the Illinois Circuit Courts and the Illinois Appellate Court, the Illinois Labor Relations Board, the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board, the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
A frequent author and lecturer, Mr. Selbka has made presentations on behalf of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association and Attorneys Title and Guaranty on various estate planning and probate matters, and has lectured on expert testimony in administrative hearings for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. He is the author of Special Education Due Process Litigation, published by the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. Mr. Selbka is also active in the legal profession as a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Northwest Suburban Bar Association, and serves his community as a member of the Arlington Heights Board of Zoning Appeals.
