Attorney Joshua L. Turnham Commemorates 1st Year Practicing Law
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) December 21, 2016 -- Attorney Joshua L. Turnham, founder of The Law Office of Joshua L. Turnham, PLLC, is celebrating his first anniversary practicing law. Turnham had nearly twenty-five cases in his first year. “For 2017, I would like to double my practice from what I accomplished in my first year,” said Turnham, who focuses on consumer protection and consumer law. “I want to focus on helping people who have trouble keeping up with their mortgages, as well as help defend people from unfair and deceptive debt-collection practices.”
Turnham graduated from Seattle University School of Law in May 2015. He passed the Washington State bar exam later that year and, shortly afterward, hung out his shingle. Turnham chose consumer protection, which includes debt defense, foreclosure mediation and bankruptcy, as it is the biggest legal need for low-income Washingtonians, according to the 2015 Washington State Civil Legal Needs Study Update.
“It’s also a huge area that is not being serviced by the legal community,” added Turnham. “Most people facing debt problems are not able to get legal help. The Great Recession hit middle- and low-income people the hardest and legal remedies are available, if they can just find a lawyer to help them out.”
Unfortunately, however, the community of consumer lawyers is small and most traditional law firms are unaffordable for the average Washingtonian, whereas The Law Office of Joshua L. Turnham prides itself on using a sliding scale fee structure and believes in providing affordable legal services to those who need it. “The difference between the demand for legal help and the supply is called the ‘access to justice gap,’” concluded Turnham. “It is my goal to play my small part to close that gap.”
