Attorney Montgomery S. Pisano Helping With Challenges of Being a New Single Parent
Los Altos, CA (PRWEB) September 07, 2016 -- Parents that find themselves single, whether due to a separation or divorce, face many issues. “It can be a challenging road; however, you can take this opportunity and actually discover and learn more about your children being a single parent,” said family law attorney Montgomery S. Pisano, of Peninsula Law Group.
For single parents, Pisano shares the following five tips on how to deal with this new challenge:
No. 1: Find a support network. “Don’t be afraid to ask for help,” stresses Pisano. “Rally your family, friends and neighbors, whether it’s for carpooling, childcare or Internet access in a pinch.”
No. 2: Take time to recharge. “Trying to be a super parent is admirable, but even Superman has his limits,” adds Pisano. “Unless you give yourself permission to regroup and regain your strength and mental stamina, it’s impossible to sustain your rigorous schedule. Although it may seem counterintuitive to take breaks and treat yourself when you’re busy taking care of everyone else, sometimes you need to do just that.”
No. 3: Value being a single parent. Rediscovering and redefining one’s family life, roles and responsibilities is also crucial. Single parents should tackle this new and uncertain future with vigor. “Again, you may find that you are able to discover your children with this opportunity,” says Pisano. “Do not be a loner or become isolated. Life does go on. Foster closeness, bond and connect with your child/children, family and friends, even your estranged spouse.”
No. 4: Spend time with your kids. “Make your calendar such that you are able to spend time with your kids as often as you can and make every moment count,” says Pisano. “Be the helping hand when your kids need it. Be spontaneous, honest and have some fun with your children.”
No. 5: Be yourself. “Sometimes, nothing more is required,” concludes Pisano. “You do not have to be a super single parent, hero, warrior or champion. Just be the best parent you can -- the loving parent that your kids want and deserve to have.”
