The study at issue here, entitled, “Breath Alcohol Concentrations of Designated Drivers,” is included in the July 2013 issue of the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs. Researchers tracked and polled over 1,000 bar patrons in and around Gainesville, Florida for a period of three months. What the researchers found was that nearly 40 percent of bar patrons who had been named as designated drivers for that particular evening consumed at least some amount of alcohol.
The study also found that nearly 20 percent of the patrons involved in the study consumed enough alcohol to register at least a 0.05 Blood Alcohol Content level.
