Auger & Auger Law Comment on High Speed Chase Driver
(PRWEB) July 30, 2013 -- Highway Patrol was doing license checks Thursday night when one driver decided he didn't want to participate. The driver sped past and led police on a high speed chase, ending with a crashed car and the man's arrest. Car accident lawyer Herb Auger says that the man will not only face criminal charges, but full liability for all damages caused by the chase.
The checkpoint was set up on Garrett Road and the driver had a suspended license, police say. He tried to avoid the checkpoint and sped away. Police pursued him through city streets, sometimes at speeds greater than 100 mph. When he crashed his car, he attempted to flee on foot according to WTVD (7.19.13).
Auger is the founder of Auger and Auger law firm, a group of Charlotte, NC personal injury attorneys. He says that the damage caused by the accident could easily soar into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“Any time your recklessness damages something, legally you're responsible for paying for it,” Auger said. “The victims of a high speed chase aren't just the police who have to risk their lives, but the owner of every car or property damaged in the crash.”
Police have not offered details on what the driver hit when he finally crashed. No one was hurt by the high speed chase.
“Whatever the fine for driving without a license, it pales compared to the kind of lawsuit a fleeing driver can face,” Auger said. “Clip just one or two cars and you owe tens of thousands of dollars. Skid into someone's home and it could be hundreds of thousands.”
The man also faces a number of charges related to the chase.
