Augmented Reality Storybook to Bring Life to Summer Reading
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 27, 2016 -- Alive Studios is an educational software company based in Atlanta that is adding a new augmented reality printed Storybook to its current line of reading and math programs for PreK to 3rd graders. Their educational solutions are one of only a handful of programs for early learners that utilize the emerging technology known as augmented reality. This provides a 3D experience without glasses and creates an imaginative and exciting environment where kids are eager to learn. “It’s so funny when teachers see our animated animals pop off the screen and respond to questions. They get as excited as the kids do,” stated Cynthia Kaye, Chief Zoo Keeper of Alive Studios.
The company’s flagship products, Letters alive and Math alive, are being used in classrooms all over the world and are contributing to higher proficiencies in reading and math. “Our learning kits can be used for classroom, small group, and individual instruction. However, we didn’t have a product that encouraged parental engagement… until now,” added Kaye. The free Storybook app is rich with activities for parents and children to work through together. A Cobb county school principal in Atlanta stated, “When I first saw a beta version of the book and heard about the free app, I instantly saw in my mind all the parents together at parent-teacher conferences and instructing them to download the app.”
The Amos Alligator Storybook will come to life with a free app that will be available on iTunes and Google Play in late June this year. The app will allow a young reader to point his/her tablet or smartphone camera at the pages in the Storybook and have the characters jump to life in augmented reality on their device. The 3D elements and characters will then interact with the reader as they are touched on the screen. Children can have the book read to them by the app with a simple touch or they can read by themselves.
Alive Studios has plans to publish a series of 26 books that feature the animal characters from their supplemental reading program, Letters alive. Each book will coincide with a letter of the alphabet and be represented by an animal that begins with that letter. “Our first augmented reality Storybook will teach the letter A and the sounds it makes, along with several sight words as children are engaged and having fun with the characters and games,” said Kaye. For instance, Amos Alligator is the first lovable character to be illustrated in a short story for children from PreK to 3rd grade. Amos’s book, Amos Alligator Arrives at the Airport, will be available just in time to spring life into the summer reading season.
