Austin Veterinary Diagnostic Hospital Wins Consecutive Talk of the Town Customer Satisfaction Awards

For example, diarrhea and vomiting are common complaints in the pet world. “When I am presented with a dog that has diarrhea or intermittent vomiting, my ‘gall bladder disease’ flag goes up,” says Dr. Jeremy Varga. “This painful condition is not uncommon in dogs and can be treated quickly. A blood test and a quick ultrasound allow me to diagnose the disease. From there we move right to surgery. A sick dog can be well within hours.”
AVDH is one of the few hospitals in the country performing laparoscopic gall bladder removal. Dr. Barrett Donop and Dr. Varga conducted the first laparoscopic gall bladder removal at Texas A&M Teaching Hospital. Since then, the two doctors have been teaching other veterinarians across the state how to identify and remove gall bladders.
AVDH’s commitment to animals goes beyond veterinary medicine. Since the creation of its adoption program Wags to Riches in 2008, the hospital has re-homed more than 55 dogs. Through the program each dog receives $500-$2,500 worth of medical care. AVDH has plated and pinned dogs’ legs and treated many, many dogs for heartworms, contusions and blood parasites. Additionally, each dog receives a “doggie dental,” full blood panel analysis, is spayed or neutered, and is micro-chipped. “This program is our way to support our community,” says Hurwitz.
