Author Angie Manning Edusei Exposes Immigrants’ Mistaken Mindset in New Book “Lost Crossing BroadWay: 40 Survival Lessons for the Wise Immigrant

The book’s full title “Lost Crossing BroadWay: 40 Survival Lessons for the Wise Immigrant” encapsulates the challenges of the author’s own experiences when she chose to uproot her family from Jamaica seven years ago, to live in the United States. Edusei believes her book, which is based on some of her own experiences, is the immigrant’s guide to achieving stability and success.
Following a successful launch of the book in New York, Manning Edusei headed for the Caribbean, launching it also in Kingston, Jamaica. There, close to a million radio and television viewers listened to her advice that the grass is only as green as we make it. “The grass only appears greener on the other side until you get to the other side” said Manning Edusei as she addressed a group of philanthropists at a Kiwanis Club of Kingston luncheon. Manning Edusei’s most recent stint was her book tour in Ghana, West Africa where she visited 6 of the 10 Regions of that country during its 57th Independence celebrations in March 2014. Whether the book curbs the plague of illegal immigration or not or whether less people choose to move legally overseas or not, this book is an eye-opener, providing a formula to travelers on how to settle with as little stress as possible.
Angie Manning Edusei’s work of three decades spans as many continents including North & South America, Europe and Africa as both a regionalist and a global mover and shaker of people’s rights. The former CEO of Jamaica’s Consumer Affairs Commission was the powerhouse behind the shaping of the Consumer Protection Act (2005) in Jamaica and one of the leading voices in the movement to harmonize consumer protection in the Caribbean. Her move to the United States expanded into various countries where her sense of fairness sharpened her advocacy for multiculturalism and a deeply committed philosophy of “one world one people.”
Manning Edusei states that her intention is to inform and empower readers and to narrow the numerous gaps - perceived and real - between immigrants and citizens of host countries. She said that immigrants and non-immigrants are the same and one should enlighten the other in the immigration process. Her work she believes will “foster understanding and enlighten people about the pitfalls and challenges of making a new home in a new country.”
