Author Joel Bernard Explores How Children Internalize Death
Grants, N.M. (PRWEB) November 22, 2013 -- Author Joel Bernard explores how early experiences with death can be internalized for a lifetime in his thoughtful new novel, “Sometimes” (published by AuthorHouse).
When the 10-year-old narrator begins to have his first real experiences with death, his world is changed forever. It begins when a dog is run over and killed. Shortly thereafter, the protagonist’s friend, Ralph, is also run over – and the neighborhood children believe it is the same car.
“Sometimes” focuses on the relationship between the narrator and his best friend, Butcher, as they cope with the aftermath of these deaths and attempt to understand them and make sense of the whole thing.
“Remember childhood,” Bernard writes. “Many of our most valuable lessons on dealing with others and situations were learned during our formative years.”
An excerpt from “Sometimes”:
“To a child death is but an illusion, a mysterious portal that when looked into for truth finds more questions than answers.”
