Author Kevin Romano’s New Book “Hell Fire in Brick City” Follows Frank Soldi as He Searches for a Criminal in a World that Blurs the Line Between Morality and Amorality

Kevin came to writing fiction in a roundabout way. It was the 1985 film "Witness" which had an ending that left him dissatisfied. So he wrote his own screenplay called "End Run", a different story but one with an ending that satisfied him. By the time he had written five or six screenplays, it was obvious that he had the knack for writing. So he went to school for film production. Although he had talent for filmmaking, he had, perhaps, more talent for writing, as can be seen in his first published book, "Hellfire in Brick City", his fourth novel. Although film production, by nature, takes place in a world of wheeler-dealers, he did take something enduring from it—film noir. And it is to film noir that "Hellfire in Brick City" owes a great debt. Film noir is a world of shady characters, femme fatales, amorality, and detectives whose own morals are highly questionable. In this novel, Frank Soldi is one of them.

When it seems to him she never met a dick she didn’t like, and has an appetite to match, things go off the rails for him. In a world where lies are the norm and truth an orphan, he finds himself in a moral morass. After the body of one of his assistants is fished out of a river, he decides to fight fire with fire. This is not as easy as he thinks, since one of his underworld nonfriends is up to his neck in the ground fire, caused by one of his businesses. It is not always clear who the psychopaths are and which characters are not in this noir novel.
