Nineteen-year-old Caroline Graham, en route to a new home, decides to change her name in an attempt to dodge an unknown and unwanted guardian. During the journey, there is an accident in which she is rescued by the county sheriff. Working at the inn and trying to keep her false name a secret is especially difficult due to the handsome but efficient sheriff. When she finally is taken to her new home at the beautiful estate of Windblown, she at last encounters her guardian and her worst fears are realized.
