Ellender, a strong and determined woman, gave birth to ten children. After suffering the immeasurable loss of two children, Ellender was tested again. Ellender’s husband, Truman Jones, passed away in an accidental death and Ellender was left alone to care for eight children.
One of Ellender’s children, Ima Jo, suffered from polio. Ima Jo was hospitalized, endured twenty-seven surgeries, and lived in an iron lung for two years. When the family moved to Santa Monica, California, Ima Jo came home to live with them.
With a five-hundred-dollar deposit, Ellender bought a house for the family. In this house Ellender worked tirelessly raising the children and seeing to the special needs of Ima Jo, who needed round the clock care. Ellender’s love for God was immense. Faith and trust was placed with God for every decision. Even when Ellender’s life was very difficult and full of disappointments, glory was given to God. Ellender taught the children the bible and ensured prayers were given every day to God.
Ellender had a purpose on this earth. This memoir is about the difficult tasks that God gave to Ellender, and how Ellender managed them with grace and love. The love of God, family, and passion for life was Ellender’s vision.
