Author Lucia Birnbaum, Ph.D., has compiled a long-term analysis of the origins of these great human characteristics in her new book, “The Future Has an Ancient Heart.”
Birnbaum argues that the origins of caring, sharing and healing were innate characteristics amongst ancient African cultures, including the first humans. These same aspects of humanity began to spread as mankind migrated around the globe, but as time passed they became diluted and lost with each passing generation.

Lucia Birnbaum received her Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a member of multiple women’s groups. Birnbaum has a long history of writing including numerous published papers and other books. She is currently professor emerita of women’s spirituality at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. Birnbaum currently lives in Berkeley so she can be close to her extended family.
