Author Maurice "Mo" Murray's Latest Self-Help Recovery Workbook, "Recovery Your Way," Liberates and Empowers Problem Drinkers and Recovering Alcoholics
Charleston, SC (PRWEB) January 21, 2015 -- Once called one of the nation’s greatest champions for self-help alcoholic recovery, author Maurice “Mo” Murray releases his latest recovery workbook. With “Recovery Your Way,” Murray once again shatters the conventional stereotype of a helplessly stuck problem drinker and removes the stigma associated with alcoholism. With this one statement, he launches a positive journey of recovery: “You are in Recovery now, even if you are still drinking.”
In the opening chapter of "Recovery Your Way," he defends this shocking assertion by saying, “To borrow an expression from Saint Augustine, your ‘Ordo del Amoris’ is changing! That is, your ‘Order of Loves’ is changing!” Murray continues by saying that alcohol is no longer the love of one’s life, God is!
In chapter three, titled “Tender Loving Greed,” Murray declares the urgency and absolute necessity of self-help recovery: “Substance abuse treatment is in the doldrums…,” he says. “The principle cause of this stagnation is that the profession denies any responsibility for anything, except that they can and will count beans [capitation] accurately so they can get paid their money.” The federal SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) is particularly held up to scathing criticism, says Murray, for unskillful and inefficient internal management. Bluntly comments Murray, “They (SAMHSA) dole out one million grant dollars annually, which are easy prey to the crafty grant writer wordsmith,” which leads him to offer his own suggestions for recovery.
"Recovery Your Way" is a workbook anthology of each of Murray’s three recovery books that are known for being full of spiritual and philosophical anecdotes, humor, modest criticism and, otherwise, very direct, hopeful suggestions. Everything that could be needed to help those with addictive personalities find a way out of their strife is packed into its one hundred pages.
Its format outlines Murray's underlying Cognitive Apprenticeship Recovery (CAR) treatment approach. He attributes the amazing success of this methodology to its essential inclusion of the ancient Greek concept of “The Singular,” which is combined with Saint Thomas Aquinas’s “The Way of Analogy.” Murray, typically in one of his radio interviews, will breakdown what he calls the “headiness” of his treatment method: “All of this ancient Greek stuff really works,” he says. “These long overlooked views are life changing tools! They give people the resolve to recover!"
Murray is a retired substance abuse counselor and former clinical director of an Intensive Outpatient Clinic on the East Coast. He is a recovering alcoholic.
