About the Author
Myrah K. Mashigo – Tshabalala was once an assistant Chief Nurse Manager in the first 24-hour primary health Care Center in the then East Rand during the apartheid era under Benoni municipality. At the dawn of democracy, Tshabalala undertook the first baseline study on quality Primary Health Care clinics as her dissertation, and as a part of innovation, she introduced the National Health Provider’s Prayer day as means to motivate her colleagues in the entire health system. Now, Tshabalala is a Quality Assurance Specialist for the National Department of Health. The degree she holds includes: Bachelor of Arts in Nursing Science, Honours Bachelor of Arts in Nursing Scrience. Her internal experiences include a Learning Programme at the Kings Fund College on Norms and Standards, Accreditation System for health service delivery, satisfaction surveys, complaints handling for health card users, Health Service Ombudsman, and Patient’s Right’s Charter. Tshabalala’s key projects included development of service levels such as Primary Health Care package, District package, Patient’s Right’s Charter, and the Complaint’s system. She was also seconded to assist with the establishment of a new cluster; office of standards and compliance in 2008 and made a major contribution to the development of the National Core Standards and the accompanying assessing tools for health institutions.
