Author Pastor Bert Baker's Newly Released “From The Pastor's Pen (Letters on Living Christ and Being Christ's Body)” is a Powerful Collection of How to Live for Christ
(PRWEB) September 17, 2016 -- “From The Pastor's Pen (Letters on Living Christ and Being Christ's Body)”: began as a monthly Bible-based letter on living for Christ. “From The Pastor's Pen (Letters on Living Christ and Being Christ's Body)” is the creation of published author, Pastor Bert Baker, who was saved at an evangelistic service in 1956. In the summer before his senior year in high school, he recommitted his life to the Lord. Upon graduation from high school he went to a Christian college where he met his future wife. He became involved in Christian Student Outreach. Through this outreach he began ministering at a Youth Opportunity Camp, a juvenile detention facility. This college ministry led the writer to work the summer before his senior year of college at a Christian camp run by a ministry in East Harlem. It was at this camp that the Lord called him to full-time urban ministry.
After college graduation he moved to Washington, DC, where he ministered on the streets, in schools, through Bible studies, and a year-round camping ministry. While he was in Washington, DC, he was married and his two children were born. At the end of six years of ministry, the Lord was leading this family to a new urban ministry to preserve and grow the fruits of evangelism. They desired to plant a Bible teaching and living Church. It was during this time that the Bible Fellowship Church wanted to give America on its two hundredth birthday a gift. This Fellowship of Churches committed itself to plant three churches, one of them an urban church. So this man and his family left Washington, DC, and presented a plan to plant this urban church. Pastor Baker and his family moved to Newark in September of 1975 to plant an urban church. The Newark Bible Fellowship Church emphasizes effective teaching and Christian living. It continues ministries to ex-offenders, substance abusers, families in crisis, people on probation, and the homeless on the streets. This homeless ministry began in 1984, the same year that "From the Pastor’s Pen" was first written to teach people how to live Christ and be his Body. After thirty eight and a half years of pastoral ministry in Newark, and forty-six years of urban ministry, Pastor Baker and Priscilla, his wife of forty-seven years, moved to Monroe Township, New Jersey. Priscilla is Pastor Baker’s faithful coworker, consistent encourager, source of great wisdom and insight, and a gifted teacher and practical servant. They still seek to see people saved, taught God’s Word, and trained for effective ministry.
Pastor Bert writes, “May this book help you to live Christ and do the work of his Church.”
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Pastor Bert Baker’s new book teaches the importance of living for Christ and how to develop unbreakable relationships among fellow believers.
Getting new Christians who do not know one another to work at building and growing relationships in a new Church is essential because the teaching and training of the core group of believers becomes the nucleus of the Body of Christ. This is the obstacle Pastor Baker faced in planting a church in Newark, NJ. Although the people came from the same urban neighborhood, it did not appear these new believers had much in common. So Pastor Baker decided to write a monthly Bible-based letter on living for Christ and how to be the Church and do its work. He planned to write "From the Pastor’s Pen" for a year or so to teach biblical truth and to develop bridges to build lasting Christian relationships. But this short-term project grew as new believers added addresses to the mailing list. Soon twenty families were fifty and then over one hundred. Believers made copies and passed them out at work. These monthly letters became the teaching materials for small-group Bible studies, and were used by missionaries in the Dutch West Indies. So from November of 1984 until June of 2014, a monthly letter was written. Pastor Baker’s short-term project became a long-term ministry. With the help of brothers and sisters in the Newark Church, the letters in this book were selected so you can live Christ and be Christ’s Body.
The book is presently being used in personal devotions, for discussion and teaching on specific subjects in family worship, and as a teaching resource for small group settings. People are also using it for help in personal life struggles and sharing it as words of encouragement to others. Since it deals with the Church as a Body, it is being used as resource material for issues that come up in the Church's life like the Lord's Day, Conflicts, and Christian giving. Although these letters were written to an Urban congregation and audience, correspondence indicates they are being used by Christians and Church leaders outside the Urban setting.
