Author Robert Kelly Shares What Happens When "A BOY WALKS INTO A BAR"
NEW YORK (PRWEB) October 30, 2013 -- “Alcoholism is a worldwide problem and the concept of addiction is so difficult to understand. A textbook explanation is one thing but the personal insights offered in this work help clarify what textbooks say,” write the author, Robert C. Kelly. Being a self-confessed alcoholic, Kelly goes past storytelling and episodic structure in his book as he delves deeper to let readers see the inner workings of an alcoholic’s mind. Kelly’s account starts after “A BOY WALKS INTO A BAR.”
In one year’s time, two events in Kelly’s life herald a future of turmoil and tragedy, the aftermath of which he continues to deal with today. At the age of 12, he had his first drink — a can of beer — in a church parking lot. That summer, he was 13 when he took a job in a bar around the corner from the house he grew up in. And so began his love affair with alcohol and bartending. Using the framework of his journey as a bartender, Kelly chronicles his descent into alcoholism, enumerates the wreckage associated with that descent and provides an account of his redemption.
“A BOY WALKS INTO A BAR” is a tool for Kelly to put the demons that hunt him to rest and to use his life as an example. In this soul-baring autobiography, readers will see the inner struggles alcoholic individuals fight every day. The craving and the need for that intoxicating liquid that hunts one up is the reason why many find it hard to part with alcohol. It is important then for the alcoholic’s family and friends to know how an alcoholic thinks and how powerful this disease can actually be. In the end, Kelly wants to share the hope to all alcoholics and non-alcoholics alike and for those who may be struggling with accepting that they are alcoholic the truth that there is a cure if anyone wills it.
Through Kelly’s account, readers will learn that it is always experience that is man’s best teacher. From his not so good past, Kelly rises and proudly tells his downfall which he was able to overcome only to come out as a better person.
