Author Shares Knowledge, Benefit of Feral Cats
CHICAGO (PRWEB) August 27, 2016 -- Author Anne E. Beall, Ph.D., and her husband had a huge rat problem, so they applied to the Cats at Work program to get feral cats to address the issue. After becoming part of the program, they learned a great deal about feral cats, the people who care for them and viewpoints of other people across the country.
After being a caretaker for three feral cats, Beall is now sharing the story and research in her fourth book, “Community Cats: A Journey into the World of Feral Cats” (published by iUniverse).
“Most people have seen a stray cat and wanted to help it,” Beall says. “Everyone has seen a stray cat that seemed a little scared and unable to interact with humans. Instead of trapping and killing those cats, we can have them do what they do best: kill rodents.”
Beall adds that Chicago, where she lives, once had one of the worst rat problems in the country. “We have a solution to that problem. And feral cats are largely viewed as pests. By putting them to work to take care of the rats, we are helping them and helping ourselves. … I want (readers) to realize that feral cats have an important role within our environment and that they are complex creatures who deserve our respect.”
