Author Sherman Salmons’s New Book “Life Goes On” is the Candid Memoir of a Poor Childhood in Rural West Virginia and the Highs and Lows of Marriage and Relationships
(PRWEB) July 06, 2017 -- Sherman Salmons, a retired coal worker, father, and grandfather, has completed his new book “Life Goes On”: an evocative memoir bringing several generations of a large and complicated West Virginia family to life.
“This story starts out with my dad, his marriages, and with him being the father of twenty kids. My mom was his third wife, and it was her first marriage. She got married four times in her life and was the mother of nine of the twenty kids. I’m the eighteenth kid and the writer.
This story is about my childhood and the tough times in the rural area of Crum, West Virginia, and my two marriages and my kids and their kids. This is also about the horse and the plow and my mother’s old churn, even Benjamin’s old crosscut saw. In today’s time, they are memories, but to me, those items are life, or I wouldn’t be here today. As youngsters, we called those days hard times, but now, we call them cherished memories. In this book, my grandkids were taught about all the ways of country living with love and understanding.
This story isn’t about a movie star, a famous person, a rich man, or a politician. It’s about the country folk—the love they have for each other, and the hard times they have had. It’s about the proud, caring, and loving group of people who have lots of kids to carry on the family name. You’ve got city folks, and you’ve got country folks and all in-between facing good times, bad times, hard times—as life goes on.”
