Automakers, Utilities and Regulators to Discuss EV Adoption, Grid Integration Strategies at Infocast’s EVs and the Grid Summit This July

The US Department of Energy and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) announced during this month’s electric utility trade group conference, that they will be joining forces to help accelerate EV infrastructure and mass adoption. This partnership between the public and private sector aims to tackle major obstacles, such as implementing the Clean Air Plan, exploring opportunities for wider EV adoption and promoting the use of EVs and PEVs.
Given that the U.S. transportation system produces one-third of the nation's carbon emissions, it is "essential that we improve plug-in electric vehicle technology and increase their numbers on the road," stated US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz.
Automakers, utilities, regulators, EV technology and service providers (EV SPs), commercial building owners and fleet operators, will engage in discussions regarding technology rollouts, and the implementation of business plans, cases and policy. The summit will also feature, “Moving Beyond Cars- Electrification of Heavy Vehicles and Public Transportation,” a panel emphasizing the development of EV charging infrastructure, and how it will affect the grid. Utilities and ISOs will discuss the technical challenges to integrating EVs, and the business opportunities they represent, while strategizing with regulators and policy experts how best to support EV infrastructure investment without overly increasing the consumer cost burden or impacting grid reliability.
