Automotive Display Shipments Increase, Due to Global Demand for Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in 2013, NPD DisplaySearch Reports
Santa Clara, CA (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- With increasing demand for center information displays and multifunction monitors for eco-friendly vehicles, year-over-year automotive TFT-LCD shipments are expected to increase 16 percent in 2013. According to the NPD DisplaySearch Automotive Displays Report, automotive TFT-LCD shipments are expected to exceed 65 million units in 2013 and more than 90 million units in 2017.
“The global demand for electric and hybrid cars, and electronic control systems is on the rise,” said Hiroshi Hayase, vice president of small/medium displays for NPD DisplaySearch. “As navigation becomes standard on more vehicles, the demand for multifunctional automotive TFT-LCD monitors will continue to grow.”
The market for TFT-LCD automotive displays was originally shared by Japanese LCD makers; however, as global demand rises display manufacturers in Taiwan, Korea, and China have been increasing output. In 2013, Innolux is expected to lead the automotive TFT-LCD display market at 22 percent, followed by Japan Display at 21 percent, and Sharp at 20 percent. The 2013 leader in automotive monitor procurement is Continental (Germany) at 13 percent, followed by Panasonic (Japan) at 11 percent, and Ford (U.S.) at 9 percent.
